Transport Manager / Operation Manager (SA Metal Group)

Responsibilities: • Accurate planning and efficient usage of resources • Ensure that Health and Safety procedures are followed • Manage the allocation of overtime. • Manage the efficient planning and routing of vehicles • Manage the efficient use and application of trailers • Manage the correct application of vehicles to jobs. • monitor, manage and report controllers key performance area s • Monitor, manage and report on drivers key performance areas • Implement schedule and policy changes • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking transportation vehicles. • In charge of the day to day operations of the transport department. • Ensuring company compliance of all transport policies, legislation and procedures. • Managing, monitoring and developing a team of drivers and Controllers. • Involved in strategic development and strategy making. • Being the first point of contact for all drivers. • Monitor time and Attendance of drivers and controllers • Making sure that all transport fleet vehicles are properly maintained and serviced. • Regularly liaising with the Buyers to ensure a smooth running of both departments. • Maintaining accurate administrative records. • Organising and Monitoring daily vehicle checks. • Identifying operational issues, potential problems and opportunities. • Resolving and managing queries and complaints courteously and efficiently. • Appraising staff performance and also taking disciplinary measures when required. • Oversee Medical Induction, and Follow ups. • Oversee the monitoring of valid driver’s licenses and PDP’s Applicants must have the following qualifying criteria: • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and outside correspondence • Directly responsible for maintaining an efficient cost advantaged company transport fleet • Ability to communicate and interact with different types of customers • Great analytical skills and accuracy with figures • Excellent project management skills • Ability to negotiate • Good organising skills • Experience in Excel, Word & outlook • Good administrative skills • Trustworthy & Honest • Ability to apply discipline to ensure operational procedures are followed • Excellent time management skills • Good verbal and written communication skills • Willing to work overtime • Transportation management diploma or equivalent. • 5 – 10 years’ experience in transport environment.
